Naples, FL (December 29, 2009) – The Friends of the Library of Collier
County, a non-profit group devoted to enhancing local libraries, is proud to present “Eclectic Works,” an exhibit by painter Doloris Daniewski, throughout January at Naples Regional’s West Wing Art Gallery.
A special artist’s reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, at the gallery, 650 Central Ave., Naples.
Daniewski’s first foray into the arts came early in life. At age 16, she was part of a Detroit Institute of Arts exhibit of high school students, and sold her first painting. The sale prompted her to study art at Michigan State University. Later, she earned her Masters of Fine Arts and Education at Michigan’s Wayne State University and pursued additional summertime artistic studies at the Chicago Institute of Art and Aero Mont School of
Design in Tennessee.
As an art teacher in the Detroit school system for 18 years, Daniewski cultivated the creative skills and sensibilities of numerous students, and was recognized as Art Teacher of the Year by the State of Michigan in 1983.
Daniewski retired to Naples in 1989, where she further expanded her artistic education by joining the Bonita Springs, Marco Island and Naples art associations. She currently provides private and small group adult instruction in watercolor techniques and challenges herself by capturing peripheral glimpses of nature in watercolors and pastels.
About the Friends of the Library and the West Wing Art Gallery:
The West Wing Art Gallery was founded in the 1990s by Frank Cullen, a Friends of the Library board member and executive director who had a love of art and an understanding of its importance in public venues. The gallery serves as a forum for area artists to showcase their works, with previously exhibited artwork including pastel and oil paintings, fine art photography and sculpture.
Artists are chosen by a committee, and may apply for selection by filling out an application complete with images of their work. New works are displayed for one month, and artists are permitted to hold an opening reception. Artists are not required to be members of the Friends of the Library, nor are they charged to exhibit; should an artist make a sale from their exhibition, however, a donation to the Friends is appreciated.
