Naples, FL (January 14, 2010) – Where can families make magic, go green, experience international music and discover the secret world of wolves? At local public libraries, thanks to the Friends of the Library of Collier County, which sponsors an array of fun and informative educational programs for participants of all ages.
The Friends have prepared an exciting schedule of family-friendly events this spring. Among the February offerings is “Yurtfolk,” which will give children ages 4 to 9 a chance to learn songs and dances from other times and places. The program will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 8, at Headquarters, 2385 Orange Blossom Drive.
In March, kids ages 8 to 10 can grab their wands for “Wizard Workshop,” where they’ll learn magic tricks and showmanship from Magic by John. This program will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Estates branch, 1266 Golden Gate Blvd. W.
March also brings “Afterschool Adventures: Get Going Green,” a chance for children kindergarten to fifth grade to get simple answers to environmental questions with the Super Science Guys. The program will be held on Thursday, March 4, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the Marco Island branch, 210 Heathwood Drive, Marco Island.
Then, in April, it’s time to ask “A Wolf in the Library?” That’s when Nancy Smith, founder of Shy Wolf Sanctuary, will bring some of her animal friends to the Golden Gate branch, 2432 Lucerne Road, for a special presentation. The program is open to grades kindergarten and higher, and will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16.
In addition to special programs, Collier County libraries also offer regular children’s weekday storytimes.
There is no charge for these events. The non-profit Friends support all public programs, either wholly or partially. Over the past 10 years, the Friends have contributed over $1.5 million to satisfy a variety of educational, recreational and technological needs at Collier County’s 10 library locations. The organization relies in part on Friends membership dues to offer this assistance. Several levels of membership are available, including a $25 Individual Membership and a $35 Family Membership.
A full schedule of all library programs and events is available online at www.collier-friends.org. Registration is required for most programs, and may be completed online, or by calling or visiting the library that is hosting the program.
